Turning over a new leaf, starting with a clean slate, turning the page, starting a new chapter… how many cliche’s are there to describe a moment in which you are at the brink of a change.

Something in the past was negative. Something in the present is presenting you with the opportunity for a positive future.

Go, my friend. Make the change and never look back.

Just rip off the freaking rear view mirror if you can’t help but look into it.

Still… the behind-the-scenes stuff might not be so bad, right?

The football team photo getting all nice and organized… the coach likes to have it just right.

The rest of the 150 players seemed to be cranked through pretty fast for their portraits – ya know, like the ones that go with the stories online or on TV for their stats.

Its kinda fun, really, because they all gather around behind me trying to make the guy laugh who is getting his photo made. Trying to act all tough… some of them pull it off, some just go ahead and smile. I like the smile ones, personally, regardless of the “toughness” factor. It makes for a good smiling portrait… because its not forced.

They really can be very funny!

Yep, good times at 8am… that long shadow isn’t the 6pm shadow…

Whenever the golf team tends to play in tournaments too far away to reasonably travel there – ya know, budget demands and such – they just come to you!

Yep, same guy in the same fountain: Dean of the International Programs here at the university I shoot for…

You might not believe me, but this wasn’t some sort of scheduled shoot. He seems to have some kind of fascination with that fountain.

Well, I had a little friend at a shoot the other day. He sat there on my light bag for a long time… quite creepy that his head would watch me wherever I went.

Regardless, there ya go… far more interesting than the photos I was taking at the time.

As for a little technical tidbit: this was taken with a lens that I bought a long time ago and forgot I owned for a while. I mean, with a DX camera, who needs a 17-35/2.8 when you have a 17-55/2.8? But… the 17-35mm isn’t FX. Oh, for random purchases that really come in handy later. 17mm is crazy wide! And because I’m a major fan of pretty good glass that has just enough optical imperfections to make things interesting while still being sharp, I’m loving the heavy vignetting of this lens at 17mm when I put on a thick filter.

I’m working for the University as the university photographer while my old boss is out for most of the semester, but on top of that I’m going to be an adjunct professor in the College of Communication for the semester teaching photography.
