Starting off with something for the refrigerator…

So, my internship with the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal has begun.

Besides the couple days of administrative stuff and such (since its a Gannett paper) I actually started working for a newspaper. How cool is that right!?

Yeah, yeah, all the old guys start chuckling and rolling their eyes, “You should’a been there back in the day!” You’re right. I should have been… but now I’m just figuring out what to do now that I’m here… now!

Alright, I digress.

Furthermore, I attended my first budget meeting today. Well, I mean, staff meeting. Says my new boss, “The same people who call staff meetings ‘budget meetings’ are the same people who call our photos ‘art’.”

(Wow, I could get used to this.)

‘Staff meeting’ it is.

So, Assignment #1 came to me as a “just do your thing, see what you can get, and it doesn’t matter” sort of thing. Honestly, this must be the way all photo jobs start. Jeff started me with those exact same words.

Well, the back-story can be found here on the DNJ website.

Click it. Check out the last line…

Well, that last line was Assignment #1. That was yesterday.

Yes, I am THAT bright-eyed, bushy-tailed intern. Call me crazy, but I really love what I do.

Here’s the story on the DNJ front page. Here’s the photo… and a few others from the night. Behind the scenes, if you will.

He watched all his classmates graduate…

…then, he and his mom waited in the wings for his name to be called.

Immediately after, his teachers held a reception for him where one of his teachers gave him a hug. That’s what the paper ran.

Really, really, really tough little guy.

I’ll keep you updated on him, too.

Stay tuned,

-Noah D.
