Of the death and dying…

I’m not a morbid or overly melodramatic person. I don’t typically do posts on doom and gloom stuff… but I went to a funeral today. Might get all of them out of the system at once.

Doesn’t mean I don’t have something to say about it…

I know one thing is certain: people who are overly obsessed with death and dying are probably not doing a very good job living.

We get in cars and those are no more than 2-ton metal boxes that we get in and fling at each other at 60 or 70 or 80 miles per hour. We get in airplanes and that’s a thin sheet of metal – pretty much a giant coke can – in a – in all practicality – vacuum flying at half the speed of sound.

“Every man dies. Not every man really lives.”
~William Wallace

It is fascinating how your SkyMiles account can either be a representation of the amount that you’ve lived or the amount that you haven’t. I hope to reach a million SkyMiles someday. I actually do. Its kind of a personal goal of mine.

“He who dies with the most toys is, nonetheless, still dead.”

Its the bottom line. Its the amount of profit you can make. Its the amount of money you have. Absurd. Its the amount of…

…no amount of anything can compare with diving with a conch fisherman in Haiti, the poorest country of the world.

…no amount of anything can compare with seeing all six of the existing 7 Wonders of the Ancient World before you’re 23.

…no amount of anything can compare with walking into a train station with only a backpack and picking a destination: “I think I’ll go there today.”

“He who doesn’t fear death dies only once.”
~Giovanni Falcone

If you learn from everything in your life, why should you regret? I wish I had not done stupid thing that hurt people – even those whom I did not yet know – but I will always be thankful for the lesson learned from it.

“If we don’t know life, how can we know death?”
~Confucius

If I never know what it is like to have six or seven figures in my bank account, that is completely okay…

….if I know what it means to live.

What does it mean? Ask me when I have a million SkyMiles…

Stay tuned…
