Between the beach and myself…

See, if you’re in a spot like Tarifa, Spain, one of the kiteboarding centers of the universe… photographs of kiteboarders kiteboarding are just unavoidable.

If you point the camera towards the beach, you’ll probably catch one – or seventy – in the frame.

Still, photographs of kiteboarders kiteboarding all up in their space…

…that’s where it gets really fun.

Edus, my friend in Tarifa, really has helped make these images happen.

Now, believe it or not, the kites are inflatable. Inflating the kites is tough, a few minutes on a hand pump.

But once that’s done, its time to ride. With dozens of boarders in the area, one must chose a good spot.

But on a beach like this, it is only moments before the spot is found and…

.

If you can’t tell, that’s big air.

.

But, see, that doesn’t do it for me. If you go stand on the beach with a long lens, you’ll get photos like that.

I’ve got to have them close.

I didn’t even bring a long lens to Spain… so, I gotta have something up close.

That’s better.

Hence the title…

Lots and lots of fun… 🙂

Definitely expect more of this stuff…

Because, after all, I’m here…

I must photograph such things. I cannot not.

Stay tuned…

PS: I’m having a lot of love for this lens these days. The new Nikkor 24-120/4 is an absurdly cool lens. Behind the scenes, looking at the original file here:

…bottom left, “History” – no edits, crops, corrections. That vignetting and color is real!
