Why shoot color…?

…when black and white is just so freaking beautiful!

Sometimes, when shooting in RAW I like to switch over to the monochrome mode just for the kicks and giggles of it. I mean, it keeps the original color file in there anyway, so why not?

I still don’t normally do it for concerts. But this was my last concert as a student, so I thought I’d push the envelope.

Its not every day, but for moments like this I almost would rather color just never have been invented:

And for these moments: if your photos aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.

I love the grit. The raw look. Almost as if it was taken on pushed Ilford HP5 or Tri-X 400.

And before the concert, before the sound check, before anything… the quiet moments when the lead singer goes off by himself to warm up.

I can just imagine this photo coming up on a negative.

Oh, and I almost forgot: this is the Rocket Summer (above) and One Republic (below).

Alas, not everything can be in B&W. I definitely could, but I guess it has to be color sometimes…

Even if they probably could stand to be stripped.

Catching flashes? No problem. When that many people have cameras now? Hey, its really pretty easy. Its all about the f/stop and waiting for the pre-flash.

Well, I just realized something, also, about all these photos. I was shooting two cameras that night. My usual D300 and then an additional D2x. Every single one of the images you’ve seen now is from the D300.

Just sayin’…

Crazy people. Crazy concerts.

My last one as a student. I’ll never get tired of it.

And always wish I had a digital camera that ONLY shot B&W.

Just sayin’…

Stay tuned…
