Tangier’s canyons…

There are just too few words to describe a medina or a souq or the canyons of color in a city like Tangier.

I sometimes think an image is the only way to attempt to do it justice. If I tried to describe the children playing on a rope slung over a broken down building, I could describe their laugh or the way the kids would take turns swinging and jumping off, the next kid scrambling to reach the still-swinging rings.

Or I could show you:

But to truly know this stuff… I want you to see it for yourself. Come to this place, walk these narrow streets…

…pass the little old men and their toothless smiles…

…pass the mosque and churches and hear the call to prayer or bells a few times a day…

Please, come be fascinated by the seemingly inexplicable tile-work in random places throughout the city…

…and eat at that cafe where your waiter is the owner and maintenance man and cook…

Please, see it for yourself. Nothing is impossible.

But if the only part of Morocco you ever see is in my photos or in books or online… all I can hope is that my images are good enough.

The world is a very beautiful place… and yours will be a lot more beautiful if you allow the rest of it to come in…

Stay tuned,
