In the middle and Seville…

Seville, I honestly knew almost nothing about before this day. I did not realize that much of the United States’ evolution and development can be directly traced to things going on in Seville. It was pretty much the capital of the known world of seafaring back in the day.

For instance, Amergo Vespucci drew up the maps of the new world here and Magellan embarked on his notorious journey around the world from a room nearby.

This was the spot that established the Spanish name in the new world. Its also likely that the decisions made here caused Spanish to be one of the world’s dominant languages… but not in Europe.I guess its one of those understated, under-visited touristy spots in Europe.

Madrid? Eh.

Barcelona? So what…

Then there’s Seville.

Now, if you like gardens, you just about can’t beat the Alacazar – the “palace” – here.

They’re some of the best I’ve ever seen in Europe. Yes, and I have been to the Boboli Gardens in Florence.

I’m not sure the Boboli Gardens had a maze… that, alone, gives it some cool points.

Yes… a maze. A hedge maze. Not gonna lie, I was by myself at 25 years old and I was having fun…

.

Besides that, the palace was along the same lines as a typical Spanish/Andalusian mega-palace. There are a couple in Morocco – a major one in Marrakech – and dotted around the rest of south Spain.

.

.

This one had some history the other ones can’t boast – being so connected with the New World and all.

But still…

.

Anyway, Seville was a pretty cool place to walk around for a day. Tomorrow, moving on back up north.

My time here wanes. Stay tuned…
