Variety never gets old….

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” ~Confucious

I was told early on by my mentor Jeff Montgomery, the only thing that is really the same every day with photography is the fact that almost every day is different.

This fact is addicting to me. And it is why I’ve dedicated my life to it.

A day starts like this…

…and it ends like this:

I am a photojournalist.

That means that my bag contains a couple of different cameras, a handful of different lenses, and a whole lot of tricks to get the job done.

.

And the things going on around behind the scenes…

Whether it happens to be that I’m shooting sports or portraits or a famous speaker or musician… it is just different all the time. Even on the same day.

Today – a Saturday – I had three separate shoots. Cross Country conference meet this morning, football at 2pm, and an outdoor portrait session at 5pm.

.

(I think the space under the visitor’s bleachers is really visually interesting.)

Some might ask, “Don’t you shoot the same thing over and over?” And it is true, I’ve attended almost every home football game for 5 years and quite a few away games, too.

Loads of basketball, more volleyball than I care to think about, loads of soccer, and I’ve even returned from trips to shoot concerts.

Some days, I have to leave one job early to be able to get the next one.

Today, it was completely different. Shift from football and all that, to quietly photographing a couple who has been married for three decades.

.

Ah, variety. The spice of life. The spice of photojournalism.

I wish upon everybody: do what you love. I’ve found the thing that makes me never really feel like what I do is “work”…

Stay tuned…
