Regular for life…

I often write about what it means to be a “regular.” I’m talking where all the waiters or baristas or bartenders on all the different shifts know your order. Where you don’t have an official tab, but if you come up short every once in a while they tease you with “I know where you live” even though they won’t remember you not paying… but still you do next time you’re in.

Life is built up of a string of “regulars.” You become a regular at your schools, at your churches, at your local coffee shop. Then you move on. The mailman knows you and the gas station attendant gets to know you while you pay for your gas. But then you move on…

In all the seasons of life, it is natural and healthy to be a “regular” in the places that mean the most to you. And it doesn’t mean that you are un-adventuresome. In fact, just the opposite: all the other places you reject for this one place. There’s something about it… something that keeps you going back even though the food might not be anything special.

A light. An ambience. A feel. The people. The other regulars.

All greater than the sum of the parts…

Stay tuned…
