“I don’t really have studios…”

It is the natural tendency of a photojournalist to forget to explore his own world. He delves into the realm of the “others” so much that he forgets to pull of to the side of the road, walk into the field, and see how his neighbor lives; in the place that he passes each day, always seeing but never observing, there is an entire world less than a mile from your little hovel.

This evening the sun set in the west and I set out from work. Intrigued by the dying sun and the absurdly tinted sky, I passed my road and drove just a mile extra down the road. To my left, just past the last traffic light out of town, a tiny stone house lies in an open field. I turned down the nearest road after having to turn around from missing it.

I parked and walked a hundred yards out into the field to a tiny house. Traffic passed on the highway and the sun was setting. I wanted nothing to do with the sunset, really, but I wanted to use the light. Sometimes you need to follow the rabbit: the goal isn’t to catch him but to have an adventure along the way.
