Walk in someone else’s sandals…

…or have your own made for you.

The Melissinos have been making sandals for three generations now. And for famous people, too: John Lennon, Jackie Onassis, Bob Saget, a host of foreign famous people nobody in the States would know… Prince Phelippe of Spain, maybe?

Yeah, you can order his hand-made sandals online at his website, but that’s almost like cheating. It is kind of the point of the whole experience to have your sandal personally fitted and inspected and trimmed and cobbled by the man himself.

Oh, and if you didn’t know, my sister – Hailey – has joined me on my sojourn across Europe.

Our few days in Athens have been quite extraordinary. Catching up on my old haunts and seeing some places she had never before.  Just today we made a run out to Corinth on the rail and struggled with the semi-existent KTEL bus system… eventually just resigning ourselves to a 4 minute taxi instead.

(Oh, and RoughGuides, you reek on advice for buses and ferries… and, well, most of the cities that are outside Athens for that matter. Maybe you should send someone TO Greece before you write a travel book about it. I’ve traveled tens of thousands of miles and I have NEVER had so much trouble with a bus system as the vague advice written about the KTEL in Greece. “Near the center of town” is not even remotely helpful!)

Anyways, I love Greece. And trains.

Yet, I do not love the purple sunburn I have on the back of my neck… ah, not so much.

Okay, dinner time. Wander until we get too hungry to keep going and just stop to eat wherever we collapse.

Good plan. Stay tuned,
-Noah D.

PS: We MIGHT not be in Athens too much longer. But where are we going? Can you feel the suspense?
