Return to Hispaniola…

Lovely day for a drive across Hispaniola. A drive from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

It is bizarre how different these two countries are. They share a border, yet their entire states of existence are wildly contrastive.

The Dominican Republic is much like other Caribbean cultures. Someone may be put-off for me saying this, but it is surprisingly similar to Cuba in many ways. The architecture, the city planning, the roads, the language…

Amazingly similar.

But completely different from it’s neighbor: Haiti.

The land where you can no longer use telephone poles as a vertical reference when framing a photograph…

Long drive. Six and a half hours, actually. In the back of a Jeep with no windows.

I love travel. A lot.

And, yes, D is with me on this one.
