And whatever time it takes…

How many steps on this pair of shoes? How many miles have those little luggage wheels rolled? How many overhead bins or subway floors has that camera bag sat on? How many hotels? How many times packed… then unpacked… then repacked? How many hands have been shook? How many cycles on how many cameras? How many terabytes through how many cards… or rolls of film? How many words?

As public as this blog is – the 1500 visitors I get a month, at the least – putting an announcement on here somehow makes it a bit more official somehow.

Beginning after the first of the year, I will be assuming a role officially titled “International Programs Administrator” for Harding University. Pretty much what that means is I work to make sure the myriad of overseas programs at the university work great and look great. The day to day will contain a certain amount of unpredictability and randomness. Certainly attractive for my personal sanity and enrichment.

Will that mean that my photojournalism will be reduced or cease? Actually, no! That is part of the deal! This job will be taking my freelance world and focusing it. But, even then, I am encouraged to pursue my own personal projects including another trip to Cuba and Haiti in the coming months.

But this blog will not change. In fact, there are even MORE opportunities for photography due to the nature of the job: a significant amount of travel is required.

So, at the behest of the new job, there will be the usual PLUS potential travel to dozens of different places around the world on most of the continents… maybe even all!

Of all of these things I mentioned at the first, how many of these were leading to a moment where I am prepared to do this job. And prepared to take this weird set of skills I’ve accumulated just by being a rolling stone… and do something a little different for a season of life.

For that, my friends, stay tuned… only time will tell…
